Long Time No See!

Hey Everyone!
Its been  over a week since I blogged (bad blogger I know) work was crazy busy last week then we left for a mini vacay so here is the recap.....
First of all, every year in Pittsburgh, Anthrocon (furries) comes to town and provides great amusement for many people who work downtown.  I went furry hunting at lunch time on multiple days but this guy was my fave. If you want to know what a furry is go ahead and google it.
Ninja Fox- his black coat had dragons on it

Friday after work we left for Jamestown NY (Lake Erie/ Lake Chataqua area) and we arrived about 8:30pm.  We get there only to discover that Jamestown is pretty much a ghost town so yeahhhh we wont be staying there again.  The rest of our weekend was pretty great otherwise.  Two other couple we are friends with joined us for many wine tastings and an awesome beer and cheese pairing event at the Southern Tier Brewery.  We were able to sample 9 different beers which were paired with 9 different cheeses and then we went on a brewery tour afterward where we got to try 5 more beers!

we got to try non carbonated beer straight from the tub- i almost like it better this way!
Sunday we went to some wineries and had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant on Lake Erie. We also stopped at a place called the Sugar Shack where a lady picks all the fruit and makes her own syrups and fruit butters.  She also showed up how grapes get picked from her 80 acres of vines.  Welch's was in the area and on our drives it was just grape vines as far as the eye could see!

A Special Treat for the Dad in Your Life

What is it?

Drunk Cupcakes!!!  I first saw this recipe on Ashley's blog and made a mental note to make them.  Well last weekend my friend's girlfriend threw him a surprise birthday party that was casino themed.  What does my friend like to do at the casino? Drink and play poker or roulette, so  I thought drunken cupcakes would tie in with the theme nicely.  I just put spoonfuls of icing on top to make it more "manly" and added a cheap poker chip on top to give it more of a casino theme.

These cupcakes are seriously so moist it is the best chocolate cupcake batter I have ever had. I made them for his party on Saturday, then for my coworkers on Tuesday because I didnt get to eat enough of them on Saturday lol.

Why is this perfect for a father's day treat?  Ummm because the batter has Guinness in it and the ganache filling has whiskey and the icing has Baileys in it!  My dad's ears perked up a bit when he heard about them so I'll be making them again this weekend for him (and me) to enjoy ha.

Happy Father's Day :)

Winner Winner

I was lucky enough to win 2 giveaways in the recent days! Thanks to Peas and Crayons for hosting the granola giveaway and Guinn and Bare It for the yummy cupcake giveaway and of course Love Grown Foods and Stay Calm Cupcake for their wonderful products.   I have saved the granola for when the hubs gets home from training in a few days, but those cupcakes didn't stand a chance!

I might have to get me some lotto tickets and hope this luck keeps up :)

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Incident sparks outrage after soldiers speak out in a video posted on YouTube
  • The men say they had to pay out of pocket for fourth piece of luggage
  • The men say it happened on a flight a day after they returned from Afghanistan
  • Delta: Active-duty U.S. military personnel can check up to three bags in coach for free
(CNN) -- Delta Air Lines says it's sorry "for any miscommunication" after U.S. Army soldiers returning from Afghanistan complained that they were charged almost $3,000 in bag fees by the carrier.
The incident has sparked outrage online after the servicemen spoke out about their experience in a video posted on YouTube.
In the clip -- which the men say was recorded on board a Delta flight from Baltimore to Atlanta on Tuesday, a day after they returned from Afghanistan -- the soldiers explain they had "a little issue with the bags."
CNN affiliate WXIA in Atlanta identified the soldiers as U.S. Army Staff Sgts. Fred Hilliker and Robert O'Hair.
The men, who were bound for Fort Polk, Louisiana, said their military travel orders allowed them to carry up to four bags, but when they arrived at the airport in Baltimore, Delta told them it allows military personnel to check only three bags for free.
Members of the unit who were traveling with four bags ended up paying out of pocket for their extra luggage, the soldiers said in the video. They were charged $200 per extra bag, so the 34-member unit ended up paying more than $2,800 in bag fees, the soldiers added.
Any extra bag fees charged by an airline will be reimbursed by the government, a military spokeswoman told CNN affiliate WGCL in Atlanta.
One of the soldiers in the video said the bag he had to pay for was a weapons case that contained "the tools that I used to protect myself and Afghan citizens while I was deployed in the country."
The other man then looked into the camera, exasperated.

"Good business model, Delta," he said sarcastically. "Not happy, not happy at all," he added, shaking his head.
After online commenters called Delta everything from "un-American" to "disgusting" in response to the video, the airline scrambled to explain the incident.
On its blog, the carrier said it deeply respects and admires men and women in uniform and added that it has worked hard to ensure that U.S. military personnel get "additional flexibility" when they travel on the carrier.
Delta explained that active-duty U.S. military personnel traveling on orders can check up to four bags in First/Business class and three bags in coach for free on both domestic and international flights.
Other airlines, like United and US Airways, have similar policies.
"We would like to publicly apologize to those service men and women for any miscommunication regarding our current policies as well as any inconvenience we may have caused," wrote Rachael Rensink, manager of Delta Social Media.
The carrier said it will be reaching out to each soldier personally to "address their concerns and work to correct any issues they have faced."
The soldiers may have been misinformed about how many bags traveling active duty military personnel can check for free, Stars and Stripes reported.

Blow the Whistle..Its Official!

Yesterday I got to pin my hubs as a Staff Sgt (E-6) before he left for training! I was super happy, excited and proud.  He also turned in his thesis on Friday which means he is allll done with Grad school and we can have a "normal" married life finally!  This last year has been rough mainly because he has been soooooo busy student teaching all day, going to night class 3 or 4 days a week, running, coaching track and cross country, and not getting home til 8 or 9 every night then having to stay up late to do his work.

Here are some pictures from yesterday:
P.S. My toes wiggle when I get excited, happy, etc. and you can def see them on the move in these pictures lol
P.P.S For some reason I look like a whale in these pictures but I assure you I have actually been losing weight!

the 1st Sgt reading his new orders

taking off his old rank and putting on the new

Me (and the capt) laughing after I "punched" it onto him

it is tradition to read the NCO creed
